Google Search Console (GSC) is a free tool from Google that gives essential insights into how your WordPress website performs in search results. It is an indispensable instrument for every website owner who is serious about SEO.

At WP Maintainer we use GSC daily to monitor the performance of client websites. In this guide we share our approach.

What is Google Search Console?

Google Search Console is a free tool that gives you insight into: - How often your website appears in search results - Which search terms are used to find you - Which pages are indexed - Technical errors and problems - Core Web Vitals performance - Security problems

Verification in WordPress

To use GSC you must verify ownership of your website: **Method 1: HTML tag (recommended for WordPress)** 1. Go to search.google.com/search-console 2. Enter your domain 3. Choose "URL prefix" 4. Copy the meta tag 5. Place it in your WordPress header (via SEO plugin or theme) **Method 2: DNS verification** Add a TXT record to your DNS. This verifies the entire domain including subdomains.
