Google Analytics 4 for WordPress: complete guide

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the new generation of Google's analytics platform. It replaces Universal Analytics, which was discontinued in July 2024. Every WordPress website now needs GA4 to measure visitor behaviour.

What is Google Analytics 4?
GA4 is an event-driven analytics platform. In contrast to Universal Analytics, which is based on sessions and page views, GA4 measures every important moment on your website as an event.
Implementation on WordPress
**Option 1: Google Site Kit (free, official)** 1. Install the Google Site Kit plugin 2. Link your Google account 3. GA4 is automatically configured
**Option 2: MonsterInsights** 1. Install MonsterInsights 2. Follow the setup wizard 3. Link your GA4 property
**Option 3: Manual (via GTM)** For advanced users: implement GA4 via Google Tag Manager for maximum control.
Configure important events
Set up these events for a WordPress website: - **form_submit** — Form submissions - **file_download** — PDF downloads - **scroll** — Deep scroll (90%) - **click** — Outgoing clicks (phone, email) - **page_view** — Page views
Set up conversions
Mark important events as conversions: - Contact form sent - Quote request - Download brochure - Newsletter registration
