Website hosting costs: what determines the price in 2026?

Hosting seems simple: you choose a package, pay per month and your website is online. But in reality the monthly price only tells part of the story. Choosing the wrong hosting package can make your website slow, insecure and unreliable.

Not all servers are equal. LiteSpeed servers are up to 40% faster than Apache. SSD storage is essential (avoid old HDD servers). A good caching system makes an enormous difference. At WP Maintainer we exclusively use LiteSpeed with NVMe SSDs.
Factor 3: Server location
For a Dutch target audience, a server in Western Europe is optimal. The further the server is from your visitors, the higher the loading time. Our servers are located in a Tier III+ data centre with direct connections to the Netherlands.
Factor 4: Support level
Cheap hosting often only offers email support with response times of 24-48 hours. With managed hosting you get direct support — essential for a business website. Always ask about the availability guarantee (SLA).
Factor 5: Extras included?
Always compare what is included: - Daily backups? - Free SSL certificate? - DDoS protection? - Staging environment? - CDN access? - Free migration?
